That's part of it, I'm also having Rockefeller be Nixon's running mate, no injury taking him off the trail for a few weeks, and Eisenhower isn't going to say anything too damaging. |

you better have Reagan in here by the 70's Barry.... can't have a Cold War without Ronnie. a younger Reagan Presidency has always been something iv'e been interested in.
anyway.... seeing as it says now in the OP that the Belgians lost the Congo in '54, im just going to have Mamba kick the bucket around New Years. That way, it can have a new leader, but still be a 'real' Colder War game.

Tank based tactics are still uncertain and their role is of military and academic debate. America pushed the first atomic program, with the USSR and Nazi Germany following closely behind in the mid 50's. Delivery systems are still problematic and rely on planes rather than ICBMs. The USSR is also extremely powerful thanks to not mutilating itself in WWII and Stalin has ensured it's industry and military is built up significantly. The Empire of Japan did engage against China but was repulsed in a long and bloody campaign. This has humiliated the militarists who are discredited, so Japan isn't as expansionist anymore preferring to focus on economic bullying to project itself. It is developing nuclear weapons presently but relies on a powerful navy to protect it's interests. It's not really aligned in the cold war as it has distanced itself from Berlin as of late. Yugoslavia is in a rather awkward position being surrounded by powerful neighbors and Tito is trying to keep the Republic unaligned but it's just a tad to small to survive on the continent without help from somewhere.... I'll get a game thread underway now. |

Alex, since i've been in control of the Congo since '54, is it safe to say that I have more or less completely solidified my control over the nation. With little to no resistance in support of another nation, or the Belgians there.
I ask because I normally have most of the resistances eradicated within a few years when playing from the time of revolution.

Essentially yes, the Congo is firmly wrested from the hands of the Europeans, most of which fled over the border into British or Portuguese territories. The borders around it are however heavily guarded by colonial troops seeking to contain what they call a "rebel government". |
